Anyway - the Cell I read had plenty of scary moments in it - and a few terrifying ones - the mass kill at the stadium; the meeting with the 'head' zombie; the silence the group have to maintain in the house - are all classic King horror scenarios - equal to anything in Romero's films. In a way Cell is like a follow-on from The Stand, or The Tommyknockers - both excellent novels in my view. As for the open-endedness of the novel, well, King's done it before in The Stand, The Mist, Pet Sematary, The Long Walk, etc. In all fairness, it's not King's best novel, that accolade goes to The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, or Gerald's Game, but it is pretty good - and does contain some genuinely scary moments.
